History of Jupiter 27 Truck Company

In April 1965, Chief William Walsh took the Holbrook Fire Department and split it into two companies. On June 15, 1965, Company B held its first meeting, and by decision of the membership became officially known as Jupiter-27 Company.  Daniel Gilliam was elected the first Captain and Charlie Pedersen was elected the first Lieutenant.

The department vehicles were split up and assigned to each company. Jupiter was assigned 3-15-3, the 1944 Chevrolet brush truck, 3-15-6, a 1959 American LaFrance ‘Class A’ pumper, as well as 3-15-8, a 1947 Diamond T floodlight truck that was purchased from Bay Shore Fire Department. It was during these early days that the company was also known as Jupiter-27 Hose Company, as evident on the Diamond T.

This Page is Dedicated in Loving Memory of

Chief Gerard Schrang

On the morning of September 11th, Gerry was just finishing a night tour when the first plane hit the World Trade Center. Like so many others, Gerry quickly responded with his brother firemen as they raced to Lower Manhattan. Gerry was a member of the FDNY's Elite Rescue Company #3 in the Bronx. Based off of the accounts of those who survived, the members of Rescue 3 were believed to have been somewhere around the 94th floor when at the time of the building collapse.

Gerry was a huge influence on the firefighting world. Between the many years spent in both Holbrook & the FDNY, Gerry was a fountain of knowledge on forcible entry, search & rescue, and aggressive firefighting. A few months after his passing, the members of Jupiter 27 Truck felt that Gerry's memory deserved to be memorialized through something that would match his ambition and committment. By January of 2002, Jupiter 27 Truck dedicated their flagship vehicle, Truck 10 to the Loving Memory of Gerry Schrang for all of his selfless service.

Rest Easy Brother.
