History of Fire Medic Company
In October of 1988, at the request of the Holbrook Fire District Commissioners, a committee was formed to determine how the department could continue to provide the best emergency medical service for the residents of the district. For many years the district struggled to provide this service within the existing framework of the department. The committee soon came to the conclusion that if the district wanted to continue to provide the best EMS care, then a separate division would have to be created with its own company, officers and members.
The members would undergo separate training and evaluations and be required to become emergency medical technicians (EMTs). Guidelines, rules, and regulations were implemented that would serve as the working by-laws of the division and company until the members of the company could establish their own.
Several names for the company were suggested. But the one that best identified the members and the service that they would provide was, The Holbrook Fire-Medic Company.
