PASSING OF MICHAEL “HOOTCH” HOOSOCK The Moyers Corners Fire Department is deeply saddened to announce the Line of Duty death of Past Deputy Chief, and current Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office Lieutenant, Michael “Hootch” Hoosock.
A member of Moyers Corners for over 16 years, he dedicated his life to public safety. Not only serving in multiple roles in our department, including Lieutenant and Captain out of Station 2 from 2010-2015, Chief of the Second Battalion from 2015-2017, and concluding his stint in the Chief’s Office as the Second Deputy Chief in 2018 but, while doing so, he was employed as a Deputy in the Police Department of the Sheriff’s Office, and moved up the ranks, serving as a Road Deputy, Patrol Sergeant, and finally a Watch Commander as a Lieutenant, all while also working on specialized assignments including the Bomb Squad, SWAT, AIR-1, and with the Warrants Squad.
In addition, he also was employed with Rural Metro Syracuse, and its successor, AMR of Central New York as a Paramedic, as well as a Firefighter/Paramedic with the Manlius Fire Department.
To say he will be missed is an extreme understatement. Whether it was in the service of the Fire Department, Law Enforcement, or as an EMS provider, everyone knew how dedicated he was to the community. Even as a Lieutenant, he was out in the community providing proactive policing, and helping any way that he could with his vast and varied background of experience.
The Department stands with our brothers and sisters with both the Sheriff’s Office as well as the Syracuse Police Department in this trying time.
Rest easy, Chief. We have the watch. |
